Hair Talk ~ "Pre Pooing"

There are some steps in your hair care regimen that just should not be skipped and pre-pooing is one of them.
What is a Pre poo....
Pre-Poo is a shortened term for Pre-Shampoo.  It is the process of treating your hair before you shampoo.
The reason we shampoo our hair is to get rid of all the build-up~ oils, dirt, skin particles, dandruff, environmental pollutants etc, from the scalp. Unfortunately, some shampoos can be very stripping~ meaning it can take away the hair's natural oils, leaving it very dry!
Applying a treatment to your hair and scalp BEFORE you shampoo gives your hair the opportunity to get the moisture it may need. It also helps prevent a flaky, dry, scalp.
The process of pre-pooing will vary from person to person. I usually pre-poo overnight by applying coconut oil, castor oil or EVOO-extra virgin olive oil to my hair and covering it with a plastic cap. The next morning, I rinse and proceed to wash.
The benefits of pre-pooing include increase shine, easier detangling, increased moisturizing and strength.  Also, if you use a drying shampoo (something full of sulfates) a pre-poo can sort of prep your hair and help it stand up the shampoo, which means it will be less likely to feel squeaky clean and stripped of all it's moisture.
